Students of EEE, GUB made an Industrial Tour
The Final Year Students of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Green University visited the Karnafuli Hydropower Station at Kaptai, Rangamati and the Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh from March 10-12, 2018. The team consisted of 41 students along with four faculty members: Mr. Md. Hasan Maruf, Mr. Prattay Deepta Kairy, Mr. Maruf Md. Sajjad Hossain and Mr. Khan Rahmat Ullah.
It may be noted that the Karnafuli Hydropower Station is the only hydroelectric power station in Bangladesh with a present generation capacity of 230 MW during peak hours and is one of the biggest water resources development projects in Bangladesh. As a part of the tour, the students visited the Kaptai dam and the generators used for power generation. They gathered first-hand knowledge about how the hydroelectric power station is maintained, the types of turbine used and the control procedures, which will help them in future.
The students of EEE of Green University also visited Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) in Cox’s Bazar. Bangladesh is connected to the ‘Information Super Highway’ through the SEA-ME-WE-4 optical fiber submarine cable communication network and the BSCCL office at Cox’s Bazar is the landing station of the SEA-ME-WE-4 system. Here, students were at first briefed about the history and operation of the BSCCL and SEA-ME-WE-4. Then they were shown the operating rooms by the officials.
