We are  pleased to share that the industrial visit organized by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter of Green University of Bangladesh was successfully held on 31st July 2025 at Reverie Power & Automation Engineering Ltd., Narsingdi with the aim of enhancing students' practical understanding of power systems, automation, and transformer technology. The visit proved to be an invaluable experience for our 50 participating students and faculty member, offering first-hand exposure to real-world power systems, automation operations, and advanced electrical engineering practices.

Learning  & Observation from this visit-

Transformer Technology & Distribution Systems

  • Basic understanding of transformers, their structure and operation

  • Live demonstration of current distribution systems

  • Transformer core, coil, conservator tank, and insulator explanations

  • Hands-on exposure to substation rooms, HT panels, and 400 kVA substations

  • Overview of 35 MVA large transformers and how VCB (Vacuum Circuit Breakers) function in high and low voltage sides

  • Explanation of PFI (Power Factor Improvement) with 0.99 reference

  • Use of vuguls relay (oil detectors) and ATS synchronization

  • Connection techniques using MDB panels, CT, PT, and relay integration

Testing Laboratory Experience

  • Students visited the fully equipped transformer testing lab and witnessed:

  • Insulation Resistance Test (GΩ)

  • Turns Ratio Test

  • Magnetic Balance Test

  • Vector Group Testing (D-Y connection with 12 clock position = Unity)

  • Winding Resistance Measurement

  • Full Load Loss Test including Copper Loss, Eddy Current & Hysteresis Loss (~80%)

  • No Load Loss and fixed loss parameters

  • Withstand Test – 1 min AC overvoltage

  • Tendada Test – Checking insulation gap

  • AC Impulse Test – 0.2μs impulse with 400kV voltage

Manufacturing Unit & Machineries

  • CNC Cutting and Bending Machines

  • Panching and Lath Machines

  • Radiator Forming Machine

  • Spot Welding and Seam Welding Machines

These machineries were demonstrated in real-time, showing how each plays a role in transformer assembly and manufacturing.

Career Guideline Session

Toward the end of the visit, a senior engineer from Reverie Power delivered an engaging session on:

  • The importance of regular updates and personal branding

  • Career pathways in the power and energy sector

  • Real-life experience sharing and motivational tips for securing jobs

Gratitude & Closing

As a token of appreciation, our faculty mentor Shaharior Anik, Lecturer, Dept. of  EEE ,presented a Crest of Gratitude to the Senior Authority  of Reverie Power & Automation Engineering Ltd.

The visit concluded with a cheerful photo session featuring all IEEE PES executive members and participants, marking a memorable ending to the day.

This industrial tour provided invaluable practical exposure to students in understanding transformer infrastructure, testing processes, automation systems, and real-time engineering practices. It reinforced IEEE PES's mission to empower future engineers through knowledge, networking, and hands-on learning.
