Online quiz competition in University level titled ‘Battle of Brains’
The department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the Green University of Bangladesh arranged this year’s biggest online quiz competition in University level titled ‘Battle of Brains’ on 13th September, 2020. This was the brainchild of the prescient and dynamic chairperson of the EEE department, Dr. ASM Shihavuddin, who thought that a quiz competition in these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic would motivate the young learners of our country in science. This was clearly visible as 670+ participants from 50+ institutions registered for the event with great enthusiasm. The event started at 7.00 pm on 13th September. All the participants were distributed in three ZOOM meeting rooms. A trial run started from 7.15 pm to better acquaint the participants with the ‘Kahoot’ app to give the answers. After the trial round, the First Battle started at 7.40 pm. There were 25 questions in the first round covering Basic Math, Physics, and EEE. The top 33 participants with the highest marks from each of the ZOOM meeting rooms were selected for the Final Battle (aka the Main event). Prof. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Prof Dr. Md. Abdur Razzzaque, Prof. Dr. Md. Fayzur Rahman, Prof. Dr. Md. Quamrul Ahsan adorned the program with their presence and gave inspiring speeches to the participants. Faculty members from other departments were also present in the main event to inspire the participants. The Final Battle started at 9.30 pm. After battling out for another 25 minutes we got our Top 10. They won a total of 10k BDT in prize money and were each given a certificate. Taki Yasir, from BUET, was placed 1st and got Prize money of 5k BDT. Md. Raqibur Rahman from IUT, Anik Mahmud from DU, Sourav Saha from SUST, Md. Nafiz Newaz from RUET were consecutively the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th runner ups. A student from the Green University of Bangladesh, named Hasibul Hasan Rahim was placed 9th. He was the only student from a private university in the Top 10. This clearly marks the high student quality intake GUB has achieved in the past few years. Announcing the winners marked the end of this amazing event which garnered a lot of positive comments from students around the country and also gave them something to be excited about in these depressing times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
